NFL Bounty System

Posted by on March 7, 2012

Its been said that the New Orleans Saints were using a bounty type system to inflict injury on opposing teams. I understand the motivation that was attempted here but did it not bother them that this is illegal. In the real world this would be considered assault and battery at a minimum. The league is looking into this issue.

If the league finds the allegations to be true I would hope that the fines levied would be extremely stiff. Back in 2007 you may recall how the New England Patriots were charged with filming other teams practices, Spygate as its been called. Well for that offense which was not illegal by the law but against the NFL rules, Bill Belichick personally was fined $500,000 and the Patriots team fined another $250,000. That is a total of 3/4 of a million dollars just for filming a team!! I should expect the fines for the bounty to be much higher unless the NFL is trying to show how unfair they can be depending on the team that is at issue. Mr. Goodell, please be fair with the punishment and make it fit the crime otherwise you are sending the wrong message.
